How can I volunteer with

Battersea Befriending Network?

What does volunteering as a befriender involve?

Battersea Befriending Network matches individuals interested in befriending with adults living in the community within the Borough of Wandsworth who are experiencing social isolation due to past or ongoing mental health problems.

All of our volunteers complete a training course, as well as background checks including DBS and references. Our professional mental health advisor then carefully matches befriender volunteers with our befriendees.

Our befrienders then build a one to one relationship with their befriendee - this involves either regular telephone calls or meet ups. Due to the personal nature of our service, there is a great deal of flexibility when it comes to what a befriending relationship entails. However, we ask all volunteers to commit to at least 12 months of volunteering.

All of our befrienders are paired with a mentor who can offer regular support and advice, and who help set up an initial relationship with the befriendees. We also offer regular support and supervision meetings throughout the year, where all volunteers have the opportunity to share their experiences and learn from each other. We invite all befriender volunteers to attend at least three of these meetings per year.

Who can volunteer?

Anyone over the age of 18 who is able to travel within the London Borough of Wandsworth can apply.
